[ERT: 1h] - An immersive ethnography (Cli-Fi) - Chapter Two: A Rude Awakening - Around the middle of the 21st century, a tranquil little village is thrown into turmoil after unexpected guests arrive in an even more unexpected manner. What will the encounter mean for the future of the community?
I think you might have invented a new genre writing a future autobiography of yourself and place? Really curious what is real and fictional too, like cluster jackfruit and milk tree. Lots of educational ethnobotany info relevant to where I live in (Malaysia) too. Thanks for the enjoyable read!
Yeah, I'm really not sure how much of all this is actually gonna happen... Right now it looks more like things are gonna end in utter chaos as soon as shit hits the fan. Nobody here even cares about the crises we're facing, let alone prepare for it. So if we're really, really, really lucky, things might take a turn into that direction. But the story is hopelessly utopian, I'll admit that.
Cluster jackfruits are fictional (so far), but Milk trees actually exist. The species we have here is Brosimum alicastrum, also called Maya Breadnut. We bought only two trees, and only one survived, so we'll see how they will do in a few decades. Promising species, but it would have been better to start with a dozen trees - the main problem is the availability of viable seeds.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I'm working on the next few chapters right now.
Loved this!
