Podcast Appearance - "Going to Seed" with Dr. Shane Simonsen
A brief intermission for one (and a half) announcement(s) --- [Estimated reading time: 2 min.]
Please allow me to interrupt the regular program of this blog with a quick announcement:
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to talk to Dr. Shane Simonsen (from Zero Input Agriculture), co-host of the Going to Seed Podcast, about our small permaculture & rewilding project - specifically our own approach, which we have termed “Primitive Permaculture.”
The podcast usually focuses more on plant breeding per se, and while I’m not specifically a plant breeder, I’m also not averse to the idea of experimenting a bit with a few of the crops we tend to here - some of which might actually yield interesting results when hybridized. We already have a natural jackfruit hybrid (called ขนุนเปียก - “wet jackfruit” - in Thai), and it’s literally a completely different fruit!
For anyone who’s not that interested in plant breeding, most of the time I talk about other things as well, such as our land (and its peculiarities), and the methods we use to tend it.
This was the first time I was interviewed for a podcast (so I was pretty damn nervous!), but it was surprisingly fun! Shane is a great host (and a great person!), and his own approach to alternative/ecological farming in Australia is well worth checking out - you can do so at:
Enjoy!!
(Oh, and because of our “low material standard of living,” I just have shitty standard in-ear headphones, so please excuse the occasional loud breathing sounds - mea culpa!)
Your regularly scheduled programming will resume shortly - please stand by!
P.S.: Additionally, I am excited to announce that I have started writing what will likely become a “short novel” (climate fiction) - but I’m not sure where exactly this project will lead yet. It’s an experiment.
Since I’m not a native speaker, I don’t have any aspirations of becoming a “real” writer, but I found that this format provides me with a new opportunity to express my ideas and hopes for the future, and - as it turned out - writing fiction can be pretty fun. After all, storytelling is both inherent and central to human existence, so I might as well attempt to get my main messages and ideas across in this more creative and experimental fashion.
I will upload the first chapter soon and see what happens!
Thanks for reading, and
I just LOVE your posts and I’m dying for more time
to read them more closely!
